Mizoram is all set to host the State Games during the month of December next.
It is a part of the on-going implementations of the comprehensive state’s Sports Policy.
The State Government is rolling out the plan to organize the State Games from December 9 to 14 next.
This was decided at the State Level Implementation and Monitoring Committee, Mizoram State Games on Monday.
The meeting was chaired by state’s sports minister Robert Romawia Royte at the Secretariat’s conference hall, Monday afternoon.
The main objectives of organizing the State Games which was last held more than two decades ago will be reviving those sports disciplines which are currently in a dormant state.
Medal earning disciplines at the national level to Olympics, such as discuss throw, short-put, high jump, pole vault, javelin throw and others hardly get any attention of the new generation in Mizoram due to lack of events.
And the state’s sports minister Robert Romawia Royte is among many sports enthusiasts who are very optimistic of the significance of the coming mega sports event in promoting athletics and other sports disciplines in the sideline of the more popular major games.
The opening ceremony of the event is tentatively scheduled on December 9.
More than 10,000 athletes representing each of the 40 MLA constituencies and around 1,000 officials are expected to get busy at 31 sports disciplines during the Mizoram State Games.
