Aizwal: Mizoram and the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation under the Ministry of Jal Shakti signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in New Delhi on Wednesday for the rollout of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) 2.0, according to sources.

Union Jal Shakti Minister C. R. Paatil participated virtually from his office, while Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma, along with state Public Health Engineering (PHE) Minister Lalnilawma and other officials, joined the event through video conference from Aizawl.

The agreement was signed by PHE Secretary Zodingpuii on behalf of the Mizoram government and Joint Secretary Swati Meena Naik from the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, officials said.

During his virtual address, the Chief Minister said Mizoram is among the first states in India to achieve full coverage under the original Jal Jeevan Mission, ensuring tap water connections to 133,060 households.

He added that all schools and Anganwadi Centres in the state have been brought under the scheme.

Officials stated that out of 852 approved water supply projects, 849 have been completed, marking about 99 per cent progress.

The state has also set up 28 water testing laboratories under the programme.

Lalduhoma welcomed the JJM 2.0 agreement, calling it important for achieving the goal of โ€œViksit Bharat,โ€ while also urging the Centre to release pending funds for the scheme since December 2024.
