The ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), while strongly condemning the brutal killing on its social media platforms, expressed its desire that such heinous crimes should never occur again against the Zo people or any citizens of the country in the future.
The opposition parties Mizo National Front (MNF) and Congress also vehemently condemned both the torching of Zairawn village and the brutal killing of the woman by suspected Meitei militants.
The MNF in a statement said that a 31-year-old woman, Zosangkim Hmar, was allegedly shot, captured and burned alive by Meitei militants when they attacked Zairawn village, setting at least 17 houses on fire on November 7.

“It is deeply distressing to witness this horrific tragedy while efforts toward peace are ongoing. The MNF has consistently supported harmony between the two communities – the Manipur Zo tribes and the Meiteis. Nevertheless, the militants’ actions clearly betray this peace process,” the statement read.
The party also urged the authorities concerned to take prompt and decisive action against the perpetrators.
On the other hand, the Manipur-based Hmar Inpui, an apex body of the Hmar tribes, alleged that Meitei militants attacked the village on November 7 at around 9 pm, setting fire to at least 17 houses.
The tribal body also alleged that Zosangkim Hmar, a mother of three minors, was burned alive after being shot and raped by the militants.
The victim’s husband Ngurthansang in his complaint filed with the Jiribam police stated that his wife was brutally murdered after being sexually assaulted.
