Chaos broke out after the final match of Captain NM Gupta Memorial Football tournament at the SM Dev stadium in Silchar on Tuesday as Mizo footballers turned violent and assaulted referees, organizers and photo journalists.
According to The Times of India, Trouble broke out minutes after the last whistle as Army Green Bengaluru defeated the defending champions Mizoram.
Alleging that referees were not impartial during officiating, players from the Mizoram team attacked the referees and assistant referees, media persons and officials.
Sources said four referees and a number of press photographers were injured in the clashes. Assam Football Association secretary Ankur Dutta said they will take up the issue with All India Football Federation.
