Guwahati: A part of an under-construction railway station at Kawnpui in Mizoram’s Kolasib district collapsed on Wednesday (August 28, 2024) due to a landslide followed by heavy rainfall.
The landslide took place along the Bairabi-Sairang railway project damaging 50 per cent of the railway station.

However, no injury to any individual was reported. The station was scheduled to be completed by March 2025.

The Bhairabi-Sairang railway project, connecting Mizoram to the rest of the country, is at an advanced stage completion, and has already achieved physical progress of 93 per cent.

The 51.38-kilometre project is slated to be completed and commissioned by July 2025.
The project, once completed, will mark the dawn of a new era in terms of communication and commerce in the Northeastern region of the country, especially in Mizoram.
