Lalenthangi Hnamte from Mizoram received the Florence Nightingale Nurses Award for her dedicated healthcare service.

Guwahati: President Droupadi Murmu honored Lalenthangi Hnamte, also known as Maeni, with the National Florence Nightingale Nurses Award on International Nurses Day in New Delhi. Hnamte, who works at a Health and Wellness Centre in Mizoram‘s Lunglei district, was recognized for her contributions to grassroots healthcare and frontline health workers.

The National Florence Nightingale Nurses Award is one of the country’s highest awards for nursing practitioners, and it includes a medal, a certificate of recognition, and a monetary prize of Rs 1 lakh.

The award is given yearly to nurses and healthcare workers who demonstrate remarkable devotion to public health services, particularly in distant and underserved areas. Hnamte was one of 15 awardees chosen from across the country this year.

Mizoram Governor Vijay Kumar Singh congratulated her on her feat, calling it a “proud moment for our state”.

“This esteemed recognition honours her outstanding dedication, compassion and selfless service in the field of public health,” Singh stated. He noted that being picked as one of only 15 winners countrywide underlines the importance of her work and dedication to healthcare delivery.

The Governor added that Hnamte’s accomplishment would serve as an encouragement to healthcare personnel throughout the region, particularly those working in rural and challenging places.

Hnamte is related with public healthcare services in the Lunglei district, where Health and Wellness Centres play an important role in delivering primary medical treatment, maternity health support, and preventative healthcare to local people.
