A crucial round of dialogue between the Mizoram government and the Hmar militants will be held on March 5 to work out an amicable and acceptable solution to the Hmar political imbroglio.

This was stated by State Home Minister R Lalzirliana in Aizawl on Monday.

Lalzirliana, however, added the government has not finalized the members of the delegation that will represent the State Government in the peace talks proposed to be held with a faction of Hmar People’s Convention (Democratic), led by H Zosangbera.

Though the ensuing round of peace negotiations will be held on a political level, it is not clear whether all the issues will be settled during March itself.

However, the Home Minister said the government is committed to find an early solution to the Hmar problem through negotiated settlement.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that the Hmar leadership is yet to get a formal invitation for the proposed talks.

The Hmar leadership, according to sources, are apprehensive about the proposed date and is likely to request the Mizoram Government to reschedule it.

The peace negotiation was initially scheduled to be held in the month of February itself, but was postponed till March 5 due to technical issues.

The first and second rounds of talks were held in August and December in the year 2016.
