With the state assembly election slated for later this year the ruling Congress has decided to dole out Rs 82 crore under its flagship programme of New Land Use Policy (NLUP). A government press release on Tuesday stated that the amount would be credited to the line departments of New Land Use Policy. The government has directed the selected beneficiaries to have their bank accounts ready for easy payment.
“The subsidiary economic project of the Congress – the New Economic Development Project in convergence with the Phase – II (2017-2018) has made 40 clusters and has selected 16,400 beneficiaries, the beneficiaries will be given one lakh rupees each which will be split in two installments,” the Mizoram government said.
The NLUP Implementing Board chairman PL Thanga has directed all the district collectors to constitute a district level bankers committee so that swift distribution of money could be made. It further directed the district collectors to shortlist villages without banking facilities and to arrange alternative for easy payment in the villages.
The flagship programme of the Congress government in Mizoram, the NLUP covered 1,31,940 beneficiaries from 2011 against the original target of 1.2 lakh beneficiaries.
The NLUP created uproar in the recently concluded Mizoram assembly session when the opposition members slam the project as vote buying programme. The NLUP Implementing Board has given each Congress MLA an opportunity to select the beneficiaries while none was given to the MNF legislators.
