Guwahati: The Mizoram government on Monday (September 2, 2024) asked the people of the state to take precautionary measures in the wake of the incessant rainfall that has lashed the hill state.
The Mizoram Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Department in a public notice appealed to every household to make sure the surroundings have proper drainage to ensure the rainwater is flushed out.

The notice said due to unprecedented rains during monsoon, many untoward incidents have taken place in the state resulting in loss of lives and properties.
Landslides at various places disrupted transportation routes while heavy downpour often interrupted normal activities.

The government has reminded all to take necessary precautions as the ground have become more vulnerable due to prolonged heavy rainfall, it said.
The government is watchful of the situation and is actively working towards relief and mitigation of problems caused by inclement weather, it added.
The people have been asked to inform officials about any place that faces a risk of landslide or any other disaster.

The government departments have also been asked to stay alert and be ready to respond to any mishap caused by heavy rainfall.
Since August 19, landslides, triggered by heavy rainfall, have been reported in several places of Mizoram.
According to the Mizoram Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Department, at least 42 people have died due to landslides and other natural calamities across the state since March 2024.
