In a significant development, Mizoram governor Kummanam Rajasekharan on Friday resigned from his post.
Rajasekharan’s resignation comes in the wake of the BJP’s Kerala unit asking the party leadership to recall him and make him a candidate from the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha seat against sitting Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, reports say.
Rajasekharan resigned from the post nine months after he was appointed in May 2018.
“Rajasekharan’s resignation had been accepted and Governor of Assam, Prof Jagdish Mukhi, has been given additional charge of the Mizoram, “in addition to his own duties, until regular arrangements for the office of the Governor of Mizoram is made”, an official statement issued from the President’s office said.
Rajasekharan, a former RSS pracharak, had been a surprise choice for the post of the BJP’s state president in 2015.
As per reports, the BJP’s ideological mentor, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), has also expressed its interest in Rajasekharan’s return.
