Mizoram Police seized morphine and heroin worth Rs 6.7 crore from a truck near Keifang and arrested three Assam residents.

Aizwal: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Mizoram Police recovered narcotics valued at nearly Rs. 6.7 crore during an operation in Saitual district and arrested three individuals allegedly involved in transporting the contraband.

According to police, the seizure was made near Keifang along the Mizoram-Manipur highway after a special team from the Saitual District Executive Force (DEF) intercepted a truck travelling towards Aizawl from Manipur. The vehicle, an Ashok Leyland truck bearing an Assam registration number, had come under suspicion based on specific intelligence inputs.

During a detailed inspection, officers discovered 13 packets containing suspected morphine hidden inside a specially designed compartment adjacent to the driver’s seat. The recovered substance weighed approximately 6.683 kg and is estimated to have a market value exceeding Rs. 6.68 crore.

In addition to the morphine, the police team also recovered 12 grams of heroin from the vehicle. The heroin is valued at around Rs. 2.4 lakh.

The three persons taken into custody have been identified as Raju Giri (32), Karnamani Das (26) and Ganesh Das (40), all residents of Assam. Investigators also seized three mobile phones believed to be linked to the case.

A criminal case has been registered under relevant legal provisions, and further investigation is underway to determine the source and intended destination of the narcotics.
