Mizoram Hockey Association on Wednesday said that Asian Games women’s hockey silver medal winner Lalremsiami would be given a rousing welcome and would organise a huge homecoming for the star. A new hockey stadium – Lalremsiami Hockey Stadium will be built at her hometown Kolasib.
After winning silver medal in Indonesia, Lalremsiami joined the national hockey camp as Indian junior womens’ team will participate at the Youth Olympics in Argentina.

“The Mizoram Hockey Association plans a huge homecoming celebration for Lalremsiami, preparations are on in Kolasib town, what we have heard is Remsiami will fly home after Argentina Youth Olympics,” Hmingdailova Khiangte, president of MHA said.
Lalremsiami was a part of the 18-member squad that represented India at the 2018 World Cup. At the Asian Games that followed, she became the first sportsperson from Mizoram to win an Asiad medal after India won silver.
Lalremsiami was included in the Under-18 Indian side that played at the Asia Cup in 2016 before being inducted to the senior camp the following year by Baljit Singh Saini, the then coach of the junior team. She represented the U-18 side at Asian Youth Olympic Games qualifier that her side finished second in. Lalremsiami finished the tournament scoring seven goals in five games. She was included in the senior team that went on to win gold at the 2017 Asia Cup

Lalremsiami was included in the 18-member squad for the 2018 World Cup as India’s youngest player at 18. After strong performances in the league games, Lalremsiami scored her first and only goal of the tournament in the crossover match against Italy.
Lalremsiami scored four goals at the Jakarta Asian Games that followed the World Cup. The Indian team lost to Japan by a 1–2 margin in the final, settling for the silver medal. In the process, Lalremsiami became the first sportsperson from Mizoram to win an Asian Games medal.
Donors and well wishers are lining up to congratulate Remsiami and one resident of Kolasib Lalfamkima had donated a land for the construction of Lalremsiami Hockey Stadium.
“We will take up the matter as soon as possible, the state government has agreed to the construction of hockey stadium in principle,” Hmingdailova said.
The Mizoram state government has stated that Lalremsiami would be given Rs. 10 lakh for winning the Asian Games silver medal, the NEC has also doled out Rs 5 lakh for the Mizo striker.
