Mizo ace striker Lalremsiami will be a part of the 20-member national Womens’ Hockey Squad for the upcoming tour of South Korea, which commences on March 3.
The Indian team will play five matches against the hosts at the Jinchun National Athletic Centre in Seoul. The Korea tour will be the team’s first event after the Indian women historic Asia Cup success where they beat China 5-4 in a penalty shootout to lift the title in November last year.
Most of the girls participated in the recently held Hockey India Senior Women National Championship in Ranchi where they performed well for their respective states.
Born and brought up in Kolasib in Mizoram, Lalremsiami is a graduate from Mizoram’s elite Thenzawl Womens’ Hockey Training Centre. She played a vital role in India’s success at last years’ Asian Cup; she started every single game at the tournament and scored against Japan and Singapore.
Before making it to the senior level Lalremsiami shined at the 4th U18 Asia Cup for India in 2016, where she became a young talent spotted by the senior team selectors. She scored three goals in the tournament and established herself as the shining star of the younger generation of Indian hockey.
Talking to Northeast Now Lalremsimi said, “Korea Tour will help us analyze the areas that require improvement ahead of the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games where we aim to finish on the podium.”
Lalremsiami was felicitated by a student body in Aizawl after winning Asia Cup last year.
