The club owner and its members met media persons on Saturday during a press conference at Aizawl Press Club, which was graced by Northeast Futsal League leader Ranajit Mahanta.

The Northeast Futsal League is the first mega league in the Northeast and will be played according to the guidelines of the world’s biggest Futsal League, Premier Futsal and Indian Super League (ISL).

Each club in the league will have two foreign/international players apart from which all members will be state players.

The league will be organised by Proclivity Sports & Recreation Pvt. Ltd.

There are plans to hire top division players from Spain and proposals are on to appoint Diego Blanco, a top ranking futsal player as the league director.

The league will be played in the Karambir Nabin Chandra AC Indoor Stadium.

The league will start on August 25, 2019 and the final game will be played on September 4, 2019.

“Futsal is the most famous sport in Mizoram and gives priority to skills and quick movement rather than size and height, and this is why the game is ideal for the Mizos,” said club owner Dustin Lalkulpuia.

The Northeast Futsal league will give a platform for the talented Mizo futsal players and a chance to play in bigger leagues as certain coaches and members of European clubs will be scouting for players, said Lalkulpuia.

“This league is a chance to show that the Mizo’s stand out in any kind of sports. Sport is the best tool for us to make ourselves known in the national level,” he added.

Ranajit Mahanta, Administrative Manager, Northeast Futsal League, said, “This league will not only create news in India but in the international level. The best futsal teams in England, France and Spain paid heed to the league as soon as they got the word.”
