A woman and her eight years old child who went missing from Tezpur in Assam were finally traced and rescued by a team of Tezpur police from Gandhidham in Gujarat after 24 days, police sources said on Tuesday.
Kabita Baruah (25) wife of Mukut Barua and her minor son named Krikhangku Baruah hailing from Kumargaon in the district under Lalmati police outpost have been missing from Tezpur since January 12 last while she went for praying at the Tezpur Ganesh Mandir.
After the incident, her husband Mukut Baruah had filed a missing complaint at Lalmati police outpost.
Uttam Sarma, the in-charge of Lalmati police outpost told Northeast Now that after CDR confirmation of her mobile, a team of Tezpur police reached Gujarat and with the help of local police were able to recovered the mother and child duo from a house of one Jaswant Kumar Sonkar under Gandhidham police station.
Sarma also said police arrested Sonakar and taken him into custody.
The police team with the accused and the rescued mother-son duo have left Gujarat for Assam.
They are expected to reach Tezpur after three days.
Meanwhile, police have begun preliminary investigation into the whole matter.
