Insurgency related violence in the North-east has dropped by 36 per cent, according to the latest report of the Union Home Ministry.
The annual Home Ministry report for 2017-18 stated that insurgency related incidents in the region have decreased to 308 in 2017 compared to 484 in 2016.
Nagaland, which has been plagued by militancy since the 80s, witnessed a decline by 67 per cent in insurgency-related incidents – from 58 in 2016 to 19 in 2017.

Four militants were killed and 171 arrested while 87 weapons were recovered in the State last year.
Assam and Meghalaya reported over 50 per cent decline in militancy related incidents.
The report further stated that Assam had witnessed ‘substantial improvement’ in the security scenario as most of the militant outfits continue to be in ceasefire.
Assam reported 56 per cent decline in insurgency-related incidents – from 75 in 2016 to 33 in 2017.
Ironically, it increased by 22 per cent in Arunachal Pradesh in spite of the fact that there is no local militant organization in the hill state.
According to the Union Home Ministry report, the state is affected by militant activities of NSCN factions, ULFA (I) and NDFB (S) which use the state as a transit corridor for their movements to and from their hideouts in neighbouring Myanmar.
The State witnessed 61 militancy related incidents in 2017, in which nine insurgents were killed and 44 others arrested.
The State also reported 27 cases of extortion and abduction, according to the Home Ministry report.
Manipur witnessed 28 per cent decline in insurgency related incidents – from 233 in 2016 to 167 in 2017. The number of civilian deaths, on the other hand, went up from 11 to 23.
Manipur accounted for about 54 per cent of total violent incidents in the region with the state reporting 167 of the 308 incidents during 2017.
Notably, Mizoram and Tripura reported no terror-related incident last year.
According to the report, casualties to both security personnel and civilians owing to militant attacks declined during last year, while the killing and arrest of militants in counter-insurgency operations also yielded more results compared to 2016.
