After Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya too has expressed incapability to conduct COVID-19 vaccination for the 18-44 years age group from May 1. 

The Meghalaya Government has informed the development saying that the State is awaiting vaccine vials from the Serum Institute of India, the manufacturer of the Covishield vaccine.

“The state has placed order for adequate number of COVID-19 vaccines with the Serum Institute of India, Pune and their delivery schedule is still awaited. This seems to be the case with most other states as well. Hence, vaccination for 18-44 years age group in Meghalaya shall not commence on May 1. The exact date of commencement will be notified in due course,” said Principal Secretary for Health and Family Welfare Department Sampath Kumar. 

“Online registration for vaccination, however, shall progress as planned. Residents in the 18-44 years age group are encouraged to actively register themselves for vaccination. COVID-19 vaccination shall happen only after online registration,” he added.

He said that spot registration will not be permitted for the 18-44 years age group as per the existing orders. 

However, Sampath Kumar informed that vaccination for citizens above 45 years of age will continue as usual. 

“COVID-19 vaccination for already eligible priority groups which includes healthcare workers, frontline workers and citizens above 45 years of age will continue as usual at the designated vaccination centres,” Kumar said. 

Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh too reportedly will not be able to take part in the drive that begins on May 1.  

According to report, Arunachal Pradesh will not be able to vaccinate its citizens in the age group of 18-45 years, “as the state is yet to receive COVID-19 vaccines from manufacturer”.

The Arunachal Pradesh Health Department is reportedly yet to receive an update from the vaccine manufacturer, it approached, on the delivery of the vaccine consignment.  

Thus, citizens above the age of 45, as of now, will be vaccinated. There will be no vaccination for the people in the 18-45 years age group in Arunachal Pradesh.
