Union Minister of State for External Affairs MJ Akbar is now in Shillong, the State capital of Meghalaya.

During his visit on Tuesday, Union Minister Akbar met Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and had discussions on several issues.

During the meeting between Union Minister Akabar and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, they had discussions mainly on issues so that bilateral and cultural relations can be improved with the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations).

Following the meeting with Union Minister Akbar, Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma on his Twitter handle on Tuesday stated: “It is my privilege to welcome Hon’ble MoS Sh. MJ Akbar ji in Shillong. Discussed several issues of importance for improving bilateral and cultural relations with ASEAN countries.”

Union Minister of State for External Affairs Akbar was scheduled to visit Mawklot village in Upper Shillong for participating in the Swachhta Hi Seva 2018 programme on Tuesday.

It may be mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ movement recently in New Delhi.

The campaign for a Swachh Bharat or clean India, which began four years ago, was made into a nationwide movement on September 15, 2018.

Within the next two weeks leading to October 2 – Gandhi Jayanti – the Swachhata Hi Seva movement aims to ensure a high standard of cleanliness across the country.

October 2, 2018 will mark the beginning of the 150th year of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth, and the Central Government has planned to realise the dream of the ‘Father of the Nation’ a clean India.
