Five persons including a minor were killed and several others injured in a road accident at a remote Tynger village under Mawsynram police station in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district.
Police officials said the accident occurred when an overloaded Mahindra Maxx (ML 06 – 3678) with 23 passengers plunged into a deep gorge at Tynger village at around 6 am on Monday.

Tynger is about 23 km from Mawsynram and about 83 km from Shillong.
The killed passengers have been identified as Bisilo Rodborne, 37, of Tyngnger village, Sillamery Katrai, 52, of Dewsaw village, Aitildabon Jeengaph, 70, of Dewsaw village, and Nancy Laitthma (38) of Dewsaw village.
The 12-year-old boy from Dewsaw village is yet to be identified.

The actual cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained but overspending is believed to be the reason behind the incident, said a police official.
The injured passengers have been rushed to Shillong Civil Hospital for treatment.
