With Justice Tarun Agarwala taking oath on Monday, the Meghalaya High Court got ?its ?new Chief Justice.

Justice Agarwala was administered the oath of office by Meghalaya Governor Ganga Prasad during a solemn function organised at the Raj Bhavan in Shillong.

Meghalaya Chief Secretary Y Tsering, Meghalaya Director General of Police SB Singh, judge of the Meghalaya High Court Justice SR Sen and other senior State government officials were present at the swearing-in ceremony.

Justice Agarwala?, who ?was the judge? ?of the Allahabad High Court, ?succeeded Justice Dinesh Maheshwari, who has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court.

It may be mentioned that in a recent order, President of India appointed new Chief Justices in Kerala, Karnataka, Tripura, Manipur and Meghalaya High Courts.

As per that order Chief Justice Dinesh Maheswari was appointed as the new Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court. He was directed to assume his new charge on or before February 20.

Tarun Agarwala, who was born on March 3, 1956, graduated in Arts from Allahabad University. He completed his graduation in Law from  University of Allahabad.
