South Korea, Meghalaya join hands for Cherry Blossom Festival

South Korea will partner Meghalaya in the 4th India International Cherry Blossom Festival to be held in Meghalaya from November 13 to 16.

This festival is being organised at Polo 5th Ground and Ward’s Lake by Meghalaya government, Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).

The festival will celebrate the unique autumn flowering of Himalayan Cherry Blossoms with several cultural events.

The 4-day event will be inaugurated by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma in presence of the Ambassador of Republic of Korea Shin Bong-Kil.

Shin Bong-Kil will lead the Republic of Korea delegation to the hill state for the festival.

There will be several Korean events (K-events) including K-Pop concert, Korean Taekwondo, Korean Cuisine and Arts stalls exhibiting opportunities on education in South Korea, in collaboration with the Korean Cultural Centre India.

A key event of the festival will be the summit between the Republic of Korea and the Meghalaya government on issues of environmental reclamation, waste to wealth, with several MoUs expecting to be inked during the summit.

LG Electronics Inc, a South Korean Headquartered Multinational Electronics Company has also stepped in as a major sponsor for the festival.

Alongside, there will be stalls showcasing the best of the region’s food, wine and crafts.

Visitors can enjoy fashion shows, rock concerts, beauty pageant and even compete in an amateur Golf Tournament.
