Shillong MP, Vincent H Pala on Wednesday slammed the Centre’s report which claimed that Meghalaya has become the worst performer in school education in India.

Pala questioned as to why private schools run by missionaries and individuals in the state were not recognized despite the fact that these institutes have contributed immensely in uplifting school education in Meghalaya.

Pala said that the report was one sided as only schools run by the government were taken into account while assessing the performances.

Pala said that the intention of the assessment was to put Meghalaya in bad light and to show to the world that all schools in the state could not provide proper education.

“Such report was to let down schools run by missionaries and other religious groups and individuals. In other parts of India too, schools run by Christian missionaries have contributed immensely in the field of education, but the Centre is not ready to recognize their contributions,” the MP said.

He also alleged that by coming out with such report, the government would push for some its agendas such as setting up of Ekklavya model schools.

He said that the citizens should not be fooled by such report, which has the ulterior motive of the central government in materializing its hidden agendas.
