Scheduled Tribes body member visits West Khasi Hills district in Meghalaya

National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) member, Hari Krishna Damor visited West Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya on Tuesday and met district officials of various departments as well as heads of traditional institutions.

The two-day visit to the district was accompanied by Assistant Director, S P Meena. The Commission members met the Syiem of Hima Nongstoiñ, headmen various localities falling under Nongstoiñ and its adjoining areas in a meeting organized by the Planning Department at the Circuit House of Nongstoiñ.

Damor requested the members present to write to the Commission regarding the problems like poor road connectivity, irregular power and water supply to interior places of the district, and assured to take up the matter with the Central government through the Chairman of the Commission.

Damor also met the district heads of various line departments where various issues relating to scholarship, hostels for boys and girls, mid-day meal, public distribution system and others were discussed.

District officers also apprised the member of the Commission issues related to Central norms and guidelines which need to be modified as per the topography, population, area, size customs and tradition of the area falling under the north-eastern region.

A memorandum was submitted by the village leaders apprising the Commission about the problems and hardships faced by the people of the area and sought for intervention by the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes.
