Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma has urged the tribal youths of the Northeast to enter into competitions be “going beyond reservations”. 

The Meghalaya chief minister made this statement after inaugurating the Makhel Heritage Conclave at Makhel village in Manipur’s Senapati district. 

“The tribal youths of the Northeast should enter into competitions by going beyond reservation mindsets,” Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma said. 

He added that his father, Late PA Sangma – a stalwart in Northeast politics – “believed in competition”.

“We need to start thinking big. We need to leave behind this reservations mindset and compete with rest of the world,” Sangma said. 

However, the Meghalaya chief minister clarified that he “do not mean that reservations should be done away with”. 

“It is the mindset that we need to change to compete with the rest of the world,” said Conrad Sangma.
