In yet another twist to the tale of recent violence that rocked Shillong, the capital city of Meghalaya, State Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, said that a political motive behind the whole episode cannot be ruled out.

This remark from Tynsong, who is heading the high level committee, assumes significance as Chief Minister Conrad Sangma had earlier asserted that his government will not spare those funding the trouble mongers to ferment more instability in the Shillong.

Paramjit Singh Sarna, president of Shiromani Akali Dal, Delhi, who is leading the delegation was of the view that the government can develop the area and proper accommodations can be provided to the residents instead of relocating them.

The delegation also met the Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong and expressed their opposition to relocation.

Sarna also wanted to know from Tynsong where the government will relocate the Gurdwara and the Guru Nanak School.

Tynsong, it is learnt, assured the Committee that the government will make best efforts to resolve the long pending issue of relocation of the residents of the colony.

Tynsong also informed that the Directorate of Land Records and Survey is starting its land survey in the colony from Wednesday.

Earlier, the Harijan Panchayat Committee of the Punjabi Harijan Colony had rejected the ‘terms of reference’ of the high level committee constituted by State Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma.

The headman of the Harijan Panchayat Committee, South East Mawkhar, Billu Singh had written a letter to the Chief Minister in this regard on behalf of the stakeholders of Punjabi Lane.
