The total lockdown in Shillong city will not continue after the two-day lockdown came to an end on Wednesday morning, Meghalaya deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong said on Tuesday.
The Meghalaya government said that the two-day total lockdown on Monday and Tuesday in Shillong Agglomeration has helped the government complete the contact tracing of 41 persons who attended the wedding at Greenwood Resort in Guwahati.
“Total lockdown will not continue and we will further see the situation in the coming days,” Tynsong told reporters after the review meeting.
Tynsong said the decision not to continue with the total lockdown was because contact tracing of the wedding attendees has completed.
“The situation is improving on Monday and Tuesday, but we should not be complacent,” Tynsong said, adding that only 12 new cases were reported on Monday, and only three new positive cases reported on Tuesday.
Tynsong also said that persons included in the list of contact tracing, would be also communicated to their respective localities so that they can monitor in their respective localities or villages.
Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War said that the government through the health teams did the contact tracing.
He said that out of 8 persons who tested positive (who are the high risk contacts of wedding attendees), altogether 198 contact tracing has been done.
Out of 41 persons who attended the wedding party at Greenwood Resort in Guwahati, two of them tested positive, and 8 of their high risk contacts had also tested positive.
“All the main contacts have been tested, and they were negative, except eight who tested positive,” Dr War said.
Meanwhile, Tynsong said that the government has also discussed during the review meeting the need to have more Corona care centres in Shillong for keeping COVID-19 positive patients.
At present, IIM Umsawli is the only corona care centre in Shillong.
Earlier, NIFT, MATI and Assam Regimental Centre at Lawsohtun were also identified as Corona care centres, but as the number of positive cases was low in the last few months, the centres have not been utilized.
