Meghalaya will work with NITI Aayog to develop a blue print for a new Meghalaya in 2022.

This decision was taken during a meeting between NITI Aayog and Meghalaya government here during a two-day visit by NITI Aayog vice-chairman Rajiv Kumar.

During Kumar’s visit to the state, a brainstorming session was held with Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma and some of his cabinet colleagues and officers from various departments.

Various issues were discussed especially the need to work in coordination between the Meghalaya government and NITI Aayog in developing blue prints for the state and create a new Meghalaya in 2022.

Meghalaya will complete 50 years of statehood in 2022, the year where the state will also host the 39th National Games.

Kumar told reporters that during the meeting, issues related to constraints and bottlenecks that the state is facing in terms of education, connectivity and power were also discussed.

The constraints he said, like in education sector due to lack of trained teachers, providing electricity to schools, besides poor mobile connectivity in border areas.

Kumar informed that after understanding issues and constraints that the state is facing, NITI Aayog would take up the matter further with different line ministries and departments of the Central government.

The NITI Aayog vice chairman also suggested the Meghalaya government to look for private investments in tourism sector.

Conrad said that during the meeting, aired issues before NITI Aayog including assistance from the Centre t o complete several pending projects in the state.

He said that Kumar has assured support to remove bottlenecks and challenges that Meghalaya is facing.

On blue print for a new Meghalaya by 2022, Conrad that by having a blue print, it would allow the state to see the functioning of all departments separately and challenges associated with the departments so that they can work in a time bound and target based manner.
