The curfew was in force without any relaxation on Saturday after stone pelters continued to gather in Mawkhar, Motphran and Jaïaw areas and pelted stones at police personnel.

Though curfew was in force, the stone pelters refused to retreat since Thursday evening.

Deployment of security force will, however, continue in the area.

Earlier, Meghalaya Home Minister, James K Sangma has called upon the people to maintain peace even as he stated that the government has met almost all the demands including the arrest of the main accused involved in the assault of three minor boys in Them Iew Mawlong.

It may be mentioned that police on Friday had rounded up around ten people suspected to be involved in the assault case and arrested the main accused.

Meanwhile a delegation of Akali Dal from Punjab is reaching Shillong later on Sunday. They will be having a meeting with Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to discuss the prevailing situation.
