Night curfew has been further relaxed in the entire Shillong city including areas under Lumdiengjri police station.

An order issued on Monday by the East Khasi Hills district magistrate said that from Tuesday, the night curfew in all areas under Shillong agglomeration will come into force from 11 pm to 5 am.

Also the District Magistrate has relaxed the night curfew in areas under Lumdiengjri Police Station, which include Jaïaw, Mawkhar, Umsohsun, Riatsamthiah, Wahingdoh, Mission, Mawprem, Lumdiengjri, Lamavilla, Qualapatty, Wahthapbru, Sunny Hill, Cantonment, Mawlong Hat including Cantonment Beat House Areas (excluding localities beyond Umshyrpi bridge) will come into force from 9 pm to 5 am.

The order will come into force with immediate effect and remain in force till further order.

Till Monday, the night curfew in the whole Shillong city comes into force from 10 am to 5 am.

However in areas under Lumdiengjri police station including the commercial area of ïewduh and Motphran, the night curfew commence from 8 pm to 5 am.

Mobile internet which was suspended on Saturday for 48 hours has been restored on Monday at 3 pm.

On Saturday, internet on mobile phones was suspended after the Meghalaya government received reports from the Director General of Police that a serious law and order situation continues to prevail in Khasi and Jaiñtia Hills and Ri Bhoi district having potential threats to public safety.

Earlier, internet facilities on mobile phones was suspended since June 1?,? following the spread of fake news on social media like whatsapp and facebook on the incident at Them ïew Mawlong on May 31, that led to a violent protest by mob at Motphran area demanding shifting of settlers from Them ïew Mawlong. The ban was lifted on June 13.

Curfew was also imposed since June 1 in the city after violent protest broke out.
