NEHU should lead educational, economic and social development of Meghalaya: Pokhriyal

Union HRD minister Ramesh Pokhriyal inaugurated the Anath Ashram Secondary School, Language Lab at the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) in Shillong on Friday.

It has been set-up under the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) and three incubation centres and programmes.

The inauguration was done by Pokhriyal through online mode (e-inauguration) including the Agri-Business Clinic at NEHU Tura campus.

Meghalaya education minister Lahkmen Rymbui, NEHU vice-chancellor SK Srivastava, senior officials of the Meghalaya government and heads of different higher educational institutes attended the function.

Pokhriyal appreciated NEHU for the programmes and incubation centres including the Agri-Business Clinic at the NEHU Tura campus.

“These centres will be helpful for Meghalaya in both education and agriculture sectors,” he said.

“NEHU should lead educational, economic and social development of Meghalaya,” he added.

He also that people of the North-Eastern region are very honest and the youths are very talented.

He said that the government has been working to ensure that talented youths get proper training through skill development programmes.

He also highlighted various initiatives taken by the Union government for student and teacher training, skill development, entrepreneurship through schemes and programmes like DIKSHA, Skill India, Start-Up India, Make In India, USTTAD.

He also said that the government has taken initiatives to provide them with a platform to prosper.

Pohkhriyal hoped to see Indian products produced by Indian entrepreneurs all over the world and this will be possible through the government’s ‘Make In India initiative.

The Minister also emphasized the importance of promoting local products, strengthening the local economy in order to reach the highest peak of development.

The Union Minister presented an appreciation certificate and memento to Meaidabahun Majaw, a class IV student from Shillong who has developed one anti-bullying mobile application.
