NCC Group Shillong sets up joint disaster management cell to fight Covid19

With an aim to fight against Covid19, a joint disaster management cell was set up on Friday at the National Cadet Corps (NCC) Group Headquarters in Shillong.

The first of its kind disaster management cell is headed by Gp Cdr, NCC Group Shillong and the director of Higher Technical Organization (DHTE).

The disaster management cell has been set up with an aim to have coordinated employment of NCC volunteers and staff in the fight against Coronavirus (Covid19).

A coordination meeting was held between all the stakeholders on Friday.

The meeting, chaired by Brig PM Bali, was also attended by DIG (Law & Order), director of DHTE, health department representative, state NCC liaison officer and NCC officials.

The guidelines of the Union defence ministry for the employment of NCC volunteers, the procedure for requisitioning and responsibilities of requisitioning agency were explained during the meeting, said an NCC Group Shillong statement.

The meeting stressed that all volunteers will undergo the preventive measures training and usage of PPEs by the health department before employment.

The DHTE also agreed to hand over 100 personal protective equipment (PPE) sets to the NCC for this task.

“The team is optimistic that this joint disaster management mechanism  will ensure timely response for fight against Corona,” it said
