Former Meghalaya chief minister and 11 other MLAs, on Monday, met TMC supremo and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata.
Top politicians from Meghalaya including former CM Mukul Sangma, former state Assembly Speaker Charles Pyngrope, former state minister Zenith Sangma met Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata.
These leaders had recently joined the TMC after quitting the Congress, sending the future of the grand old party in Meghalaya in the state of uncertainty.

The leaders were accorded a warm welcome by the West Bengal chief minister and TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee.

Recently, former Meghalaya CM Mukul Sangma, former Meghalaya Speaker Charles Pyngrope and 10 other Congress MLAs had quit the grand old party and joined the TMC.
Charles Pyngrope is likely to be given the charge of president of the newly formed Meghalaya unit of the TMC.
On the other hand, Mukul Sangma is likely to assume charge of leader of TMC legislature party.
Meanwhile, former Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma has said that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) is looking to expand its base across the Northeast ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

This was informed by former Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma during an interview to news agency PTI.
He said that the political dynamics across the Northeast will soon change with him quitting the Congress.
“I have been holding talks with leaders from other states in the region. They have been calling me up following the political decision that we have taken. This indicates that they are looking for something new in their respective states,” the former Meghalaya CM said.
