East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Claudia Lyngwa said that the police intervened right on time to douse the fire with help from fire tenders.

“The fire could have spread to more areas and residential buildings in the area. The miscreants might have taken advantage of the load shedding and set on fire the trucks,” the SP said.

“It’s a huge area where trucks have been parked on the roadside. We have been telling the truckers to move the trucks from there for last several days. The truckers can move the trucks from there after unloading. However, they did not pay heed to our requests.

“Our investigation is on and we have launched a search operation to nab the culprits,” she added.
