Guwahati: Cherrapunji Eastern Craft Gin, a small-batch spirit from India’s northeastern state of Meghalaya, has clinched the top award at the prestigious Global Spirits Masters competition.

Made with rainwater and boasting a unique blend of 12 botanicals native to the region, Cherrapunji Gin triumphed over 110 competitors from 55 countries.

The gin was also recently showcased at the London Wine Fair, introducing the world to the distinct flavors of Northeast India.

This award-winning spirit is a collaborative effort between the company’s master distiller and a Dutch expert.

It features a distinctive blend of botanicals like Kaji Nemu (Assam), Khasi Mandarin (Meghalaya), smoked tea (Manipur), cardamom (Sikkim), and juniper berries from the Eastern Himalayas.

This unique combination reflects the rich terroir of the Northeast and offers a sipping gin experience that caters to international tastes.

Currently available in Meghalaya, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh, Cherrapunji Gin is poised for a wider launch across Northeast India.

The company is also setting its sights on international markets, with its first export shipment expected to reach European shores next month.

This marks a significant milestone for the Northeast Indian craft spirits industry, putting a regional brand on the global map.
