Meghalaya: 13th COVID19 patient, 12 returnees tested positive earlier found negative

The 13th COVID19 positive patient in Meghalaya was declared negative for the virus on Sunday, nine days after she tested positive.

The sample of the patient tested COVID19 positive on May 9.

Meanwhile, the 12 returnees from Chennai, who tested positive for COVID19 on Saturday, tested negative at the laboratory of the North East Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), Mawdiangdiang.

The 12 returnees were found positive for COVID19 on Saturday after their samples were tested with Rapid Testing Kits.

But they tested negative during Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) test at the NEIGRIHMS.

NEIGRIHMS is the nodal hospital for testing samples for COVID19 in Meghalaya.

Informing about the 13th COVID19 patient’s retest, Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma tweeted: “Retest of the lone active case (positive patient) was done again, and the test has come out negative.”

However, as per protocol, “the patient will have to be tested again after 24 hours”, the chief minister said.

Regarding the COVID19 test of the returnees, the chief minister tweeted:  “All the individuals, who came from outside North East, till now, and tested initially positive in the rapid test (antibody test), were tested for Covid-19 through RT-PCR test, and all those cases have come out negative.”
