The Civil Society Women’s Organization in Meghalaya strongly condemned the murder of Leiyaton Soro, a young lady from Manipur, who worked as a nurse at Nazareth Hospital in Shillong.
Soro went missing since May 26 and was found brutally murdered.
Her body was recovered on Tuesday at Ryndang Briew, near Umiam viewpoint, on the Shillong-Guwahati highway.
“Protection of women and children is a priority of any government and finding murderers and booking perpetrators of crimes against women and children is a must so that it sends out a signal that the law will catch up fast. Such cases should not be taken lightly as this gives a boost to perpetrators who feel they can just get away with murder or crimes against women and children,” CSWO president, Agnes Kharshiing said in a statement on Wednesday.
The CSWO also urged the public to cooperate and help the police with any leads in the murder of the nurse so that together ‘we can rid society of evil-doers and perpetrators of atrocities against women and children’.
The women’s organization also conveyed sincere condolences to the bereaved family members of late Soro.
