Shillong: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has issued a warning to the government, stating that it will unilaterally implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system in Meghalaya if the central and state governments continue to drag their “feet on the issue”.
KSU president Lambokstarwell Marngar expressed frustration over the lack of progress, citing the 2019 resolution passed by 60 MLAs in support of ILP implementation, which remains unacted upon by the central government.

The union also criticized the state government for failing to enforce the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act, 2016, aimed at addressing the issue of influx and illegal immigration.
Marngar said that the KSU will continue its drive against illegal immigrants with the support of local indigenous people, having waited over 50 years for effective legislation.
The KSU had previously erected an ILP check gate in Ri-Bhoi district to prevent the entry of suspected illegal migrants.
