Shillong: The Voice of the People Party (VPP) in Meghalaya has reaffirmed its stance on ticket allocation for the upcoming Member of District Council (MDC) polls, despite growing resentment from certain quarters.

VPP president Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit stated the final decision on ticket allocation rests solely with the party’s Election Committee.

Basaiawmoit added that individuals joining the party solely to secure a ticket are discouraged, stating, “If anyone joins the party solely to secure a ticket, it is better for them not to join at all.”

He added that the Election Committee holds the ultimate authority in ticket allocation.

The VPP has already announced 27 candidates for the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and 24 for the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC).

However, the party is yet to declare candidates in six constituencies, which are currently under review by the Election Committee.

Basaiawmoit acknowledged that the VPP’s emergence has inspired many young individuals to join politics, but stressed that joining the party should be driven by a genuine intention to serve and improve the community, rather than solely to contest elections.
