Guwahati: Voice of People Party (VPP) MLA Adelbert Nongrum has lambasted the National People’s Party (NPP)-led Meghalaya government for its “failure to relocate” residents of Them Iew Mawlong.

Nongrum expressed his concern about the government’s unfulfilled promise to relocate the residents for over five years.

He stated that the residents of the area are in unhealthy living conditions with potential health hazards.

Nongrum further criticized the presence of a slum in the heart of the city stating of an inconvenience caused to the general public by the barricade blocking vehicle entry on the road leading to Them Iew Mawlong.

This barricade has reportedly resulted in significant traffic congestion throughout the area, he said.
