Meghalaya Urban Affairs Minister lays foundation stone of 22.75 crore Indoor Stadium

Ronnie V Lyngdoh, Minister of Urban Affairs, Arts and Culture, laid the foundation stone for the construction of an Indoor stadium at Mawbynna Village, Pomlakrai amidst other dignitaries. The stadium which is located at a distance of 16 Kms from Shillong, will be constructed with a budget of 22.75 crore.

The construction of the Indoor Stadium at this location is due to the initiative of the Chief Minister of Meghalaya Mukul Sangma. It is a strong initiative for the road map preparation of the National Games 2022 to be held in Meghalaya. The National Games 2022 will also coincide with the golden jubilee of its statehood.

This venture is under the joint initiative of the North Eastern Council and the Government of Meghalaya. The time for the completion of the project is in two years time covering an area building of 2100.00 square meters. The stadium would be able to accommodate 1700 spectators.

Director of Sports and Youth Affairs, Matsiewdor War Nongbri who was present at the ceremony said, “There will also be clear minimum vertical height from Indoor Pitch of 14 m to 15 m as per standards for International Sports events. There will be facilities for players, sports personnels, supporting staff, technical staff and media. There will be separate enclosure for VVIPs/VIPs and corporate sponsors. There will also be acoustic treatment at indoor roofs and walls. The indoor stadium will also include artificial lighting at Indoor pitch as per requirements for indoor games media photos and video. The structure of the indoor stadium will be built keeping in mind seismic and earthquake parameters.”
