Guwahati: Manuel Badwar, senior Congress leader expressed concern over the “potential dangers” of unregulated mass migration on the indigenous population in Meghalaya.
He stated that with only 3 million (30 lakh) indigenous people in Meghalaya, uncontrolled immigration could erode the region’s cultural fabric.

He advocated for a state-specific law to address the issue, particularly in light of the situation in Bangladesh.
Badwar also criticized the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) for potentially opening doors to illegal migrants based on religious criteria.
