Shillong: Two individuals were reportedly beaten to death by unidentified attackers on Wednesday evening near Ichamati in East Khasi Hills in Meghalaya.

As per reports, the deceased were identified as L Esan Sing and L Sujit Dutta.

They were allegedly beaten to death by unidentified attackers following an anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) rally.

Police stated that they suspect that criminals may have attempted to exploit the situation by targetting the two deceased, who belonged to non-indigenous communities.

While senior officials had confirmed the deaths, they also stated that the bodies were found in separate locations (Ichamati and Dalda).

The police are currently investigating the incident.

The police are trying to find out if the incident was related to the CAA protest or not.

To quell further unrest, Superintendents of Police across the district have been instructed to heighten patrols and organize peace meetings.
