Meghalaya: Two more file nominations for South Tura by-election

Two more candidates filed their nominations on Monday for the by-election to South Tura Assembly seat, where Chief Minister Conrad Kongkal Sangma is seeking his election as member of the tenth Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.

Both the candidates – former South Tura MLA, John Leslee K Sangma and Chris Kabul submitted their nominations as independent candidates.

The Chief Minister who is the NPP candidate and Congress candidate Charlotte W Momin had filed their nominations last week.

With John and Kabul a total of four candidates are in the fray for the by-election to South Tura slated for August 23.

The South Tura seat that remained vacant after the resignation of sitting MLA Agatha K Sangma will go to by-election together with Ranikor Assembly seat.

From Ranikor, four candidates are also in the fray. They include former Ranikor MLA Martin M Danggo who is the candidate of the NPP.

The Ranikor seat remained vacant after Danggo the former Assembly Speaker and five-time legislator resigned as Congress MLA from Ranikor after the creation of Ranikor Civil Sub Division by the present NPP-led MDA government.

Besides Danggo, others who had filed their nominations for the by-election to Ranikor constituency include Pius Marweiñ of the United Democratic Party (UDP), Jackiush Sangma of the opposition Congress, and former Mawsynram legislator, P N Syiem who is the candidate of the People’s Democratic Front.
