Meghalaya State Planning Board on Wednesday asked the State Transport Department to get rid of all damaged and condemned maxi cabs that are being dumped at the base of the parking lot opposite the main branch of the State Bank of India (SBI) in Shillong within one week.
The order came from the Meghalaya State Planning Board chairman, Lambor Malngiang after he received information from the Urban Affairs Department about the state of affairs of the parking lot.

The Urban Affairs officials had earlier intimated Malngiang that the base of the parking lot was used for dumping all damaged and condemned maxi cabs.
Some of the damaged taxis also turned out to be garbage bins for throwing of all kinds of wastes.
The maxi cabs were also in such deplorable condition that they were beyond any kind of repair.

Informed sources shared that most of the maxi cabs were condemned because of lack of proper maintenance by the private operators who were asked to operate both these maxi cabs and JNNURM buses given by the Centre to the State.
