Meghalaya will receive only Rs 170 crore from the Central Government for building sports infrastructure ahead of hosting the National Games in 2022.
This was informed by state sports and youth affairs minister, Banteidor Lyngdoh on Monday.

Lyngdoh said the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has decided to reduce the amount to Rs 170 crore only.
Notably, on October 25 last year, union minister for social justice and empowerment, Thaawarchand Gehlot, during his visit to Shillong, had informed that his ministry would set up one of the five national sports stadiums of international standard for differently-abled in Meghalaya at over Rs 200 crore.
Lyngdoh said that the ministry has justified the reduction of the amount to Rs 170 crore based on the conditions and requirement of fund.

The Meghalaya government has engaged the Hindustan Steel Corporation Limited (HSCL) as the Project Management Consultant (PMC) for building infrastructure for the National Games.
Lyngdoh said that detailed estimates and designs related to construction of the games village are being prepared by the PMC.
By December, the PMC should be able to float tenders.
