The decision was made by a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Indra Prasanna Mukerji and Justice Biswadeep Bhattacharjee.
The court’s decision comes after Phuyosa Yobin, an advocate, filed a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking the court’s intervention to restore normalcy at the university.

The PIL requested the court to take suo motu cognisance of the university’s affairs and pass necessary orders to ensure its smooth functioning.
The court acknowledged that the state government has made recommendations to the Centre to resolve the university’s problems and that the Centre is considering measures to address them.

Given that the university’s administration is controlled by the central government, the court decided to give the Centre more time to resolve the issue.
However, the court made it clear that if the problems persist until the next hearing date on November 20, it will consider taking suo motu cognisance of the university’s affairs and decide the matter accordingly.
