Shillong: A major fire engulfed the Shillong Bar Association building located behind the East Khasi Hills district office on Saturday night.
The incident, reported around 10:15 PM, saw firefighters battling the blaze for several hours.

While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, who visited the site, suspects electrical issues may have been involved.
“We’re still determining the exact cause, but initial indications point towards electrical problems,” Chief Minister Sangma stated.
“While thankfully there was no loss of life, the infrastructure and potentially important documents have suffered significant damage. We’re working diligently to minimize the losses,” he said.
