SHILLONG: Meghalaya released the final electoral roll on Thursday with total 18,92,716 electorates enlisted in it.

Chief Electoral Officer, F R Kharkongor released the final electoral roll for this year at a state level function with January 1 as the qualifying date.
East Khasi Hills deputy commissioner, M W Nongbri, and representatives of various political parties were also present.
“Updating of the electoral roll will continue to ensure that no prospective voter is left out,” Kharkongor said while stating that enrollment and participation of female voters has been very high in the state.

As the state will hold the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in April-May this year, the CEO informed that taking into account the lackadaisical approach of the electorates when it comes to Parliamentary elections, new and innovative measures would be introduced to encourage the people to go out and vote in large numbers.
He also informed about the Voter Verification & Information Programme (VVIP) 1950 that would be launched on National Voters’ Day that would enable the electorates to verify and check their names polling stations and other details through mobile phones.
The CEO also released the electoral rolls and handed them over to representatives of different political parties.
