Meghalaya on Tuesday registered one more COVID19 positive case.

The infected person is from Garo Hills who was among the returnees from Chennai.

Confirming the news, Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday said the patient is asymptomatic and has been under institutional quarantine at Tura.

โ€œOne of the persons from Garo Hills, who came back from chennai in the second batch has tested positive for Covid -19.. the person is asymtomatic (sic) and has been in institutional quarantine in Tura. We are monitoring the situation,โ€ tweeted chief minister Sangma.

However, the chief minister asked the people of the state not to panic.

โ€œWe should not to panic โ€ฆ but need to handle this with utmost care and responsibility,โ€ said the chief minister.

The chief minister has urged the citizens of the state to take care of the elderly people as they are vulnerable to the infection.

โ€œWe need to take care of elderly people and people with comorbid conditions. Asymptotic and young people are recovering from this by observing isolation,โ€ Sangma tweeted.

In another tweeted, chief minister Sangma said: โ€œWe have increased the screening points to 14 to accommodate the inflow of over 1400 citizens back to #Meghalaya from #Karnataka and to prepare for those returning from other states as well. Process and protocols were reviewed for the same in todayโ€™s meeting.โ€
