The United Democratic Party (UDP) has asked Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma to remove power minister James PK Sangma and CMD of the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL), Arunkumar Kembhavi.
UDP is an ally of the NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government.

In a letter to the chief minister on Monday, UDP general secretary Jemino Mawthoh demanded that the Power Minister and CMD of MeECL should be removed from their positions in view of the ongoing power crisis in the state.
He demanded blamed them for the serious financial bankruptcy and other financial and administrative mismanagement in the power department, plunging the state into an unprecedented power outage, affecting the normal life in the state.
The UDP has seven MLAs, of which, three are ministers in the NPP-led MDA government.

The UDP is also holding the post of Speaker of the State Assembly.
MePDCL has resorted to load shedding in the state from Saturday.
The MePDCL’s move comes after NEEPCO decided to regulate the power supply to Meghalaya from March 20.
NEEPCO recently sent a notice to the state government, stating that it would regulate power supply from March 20 if Rs 504.41 crore dues are not cleared.
